The African movie industry is becoming controversial especially Ghollywood, with movies that show explicit sexual content like “Dirty Secret” which was classified as “Soft-porn” movie.

The other notable industry in Africa is Nollywood which follows closely behind Bollywood. I remember when families could sit down to watch movies together, but now it’s a little uncomfortable watching a sex scene with your parents who came to spend Christmas with you.  You kind of turn your face a way or run to the kitchen to get something you really don’t need.

Nollywood actress Uche Jombo is definitely one of the hottest actresses around and she has the brains to back it up. She has appeared in hundreds of Nollywood movies and also produced some.  In a recent interview, she opens up on how she got started in the movie industry, relationship and more.

Below are excerpts from the interview:

Can you tell us a little about your background?
I attended Aba-Owerri Road Primary School, Aba; Abayi Girls, Aba and Queens College, Enugu, for my primary and secondary school education respectively.
I am an actress, a writer, an executive producer. I am from Abriba in Abia State. I have four brothers and four sisters. I have B.Sc. in Mathematics and Statistics as well as a PGD in Computer programming from the University of Calabar and Federal University of Technology, Minna, respectively.

So, what happened to Mathematics and Computer Programming? Did you ever work with the certificates?
Trust me, I still use the certificates, though, privately, because I don’t think there is anything I do that has not been carefully calculated. So, I use it in my daily activities and acting career. I have never worked with my degrees, I have acted all my life.

When an up-coming Nollywood actress says a producer or an actor made sexual advances to her before giving her a role in a movie, the influential actors or actresses will come out and stoutly defend the claim and even dare the actress to come out openly on who the person is.

However, because of the stigma and effect that verifying such claim carries on the career of such an actress, it’s usually swept under the carpet.

A London-based Yoruba actress and producer, Alaba Olatunde-Oyasodun in an interview recently spoke about her frustrations and experience before she relocated abroad.


Why did you relocate abroad?
When I was in Nigeria, things were not so easy. I was just struggling. At some point, I got tired of everything. So, when I had the opportunity to travel abroad, I grabbed it.

Nollywood actor, Jim Iyke opens up in an interview on his movie roles and running his foundation. His foundation is involved in the advancement of the protection of rights and welfare of children with various deformities. The University of Jos graduate is not only an actor but a business man to the core. He also owns a recording company.

As the only African on the set of ‘Between Kings and Queens’ what was the experience like for you?
I saw it as a cultural exchange of some sorts. I was basically the only African in the movie but you know the way thespians are , in regardless of the color .We think alike, we are one minded people ,we are uniformed in our approach to things so in no time it was easy for me to blend in and work together to make things happen. The truth is that the key ingredients when shooting a movie is the talent and relentless effort of the director. It was easy to work and hang around with some really cool people.

The name RMD in Nigeria’s entertainment circle attracts respect, finesse, and precision any day and any time and any movie he starred in is a block-buster.

With bachelors degree in Theater Arts and Law, Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) seems to have seen it all in the area of acting, politics and management.

The 49-year old Nollywood actor is currently teaching a Master Class in Acting at the Royal Arts Academy. In his charismatic manner, RMD took the students on a well-researched, treatise of the Acting profession in Nigeria and sharing his wealth of experience.

Asked about his motivation in teaching the class, he said he was happy at way the movie industry is heading and encourages both the existing and new actors and actresses to make education a priority.
