Gist Express: How did you get started with House of JDFK?
Juliet: JDFK was founded only a few years back but officially launched in March 2009. We were at the onset, only patronized by family and friends and later progressed to organizing photo shoots with talented models, giving free consultations, beauty tips and makeovers. It is only now that we have established ourselves, as we starting to reap the fruits of our labor.
Gist Express: How did you make the transition from being a Lawyer to a beauty expert? Do you still practice law?
Juliet: My Parents noticed my fascination with fashion when I was only 3 years old. According to them, I often used my mother’s lipstick trying to put them on and wore her fragrance whenever they were left unattended and within my reach.
My Passion for Fashion, Style and Makeup started at a very early age of five. I actually started as a kid fashion Model for my Mum’s Fashion Line ( Robank Fashions), then at the age of 16 signed a modeling contract with Proctor and Gamble where my career in beauty all started.
I personally discovered my Talent while I was at University as friends came to me whenever they needed a change in their hair color or needed make up tips. I was doing stuff like ear piercing, nails and hair styling for them all.
Beauty has been part of me, right from my early days whilst growing up. I was raised in a house with so many aunties and uncles, majority of whom were in college or University. They were all quite trendy and must have further increased my interest in fashion and beauty. My Mother had a Hair and Beauty Salon at the time and I learnt a thing or two from her.
My parents were adamant that I studied law so we agreed that I could work at the salon during breaks and vacations. I am not practicing at the moment but am currently with the Institute of Legal Executives linked through the London College of law.
Gist Express: What challenges did you face in starting the business?
Juliet: One of the challenges I faced in starting this beauty business are such as: When I started was actually when the country’s economy had actually gone bad. That made it very difficult for people to spend like they should.
Gist Express: Are you working or any projects and what was/is your most exciting project?
Juliet: I am presently working on launching my first skincare range for spots and blemishes. I am the official MUA for the Diamond Recognition Awards Uk coming up in June 2011 and just recently got the contract to be the Official MUA for Miss Black Africa 2011. I have had a few interesting jobs like the London Fashion week(Martini Launch) where I got to meet numerous celebrities such as Lady Gaga, Late Alexander Mc Queen, Road shows for Sarah Jessica Parker, Givenchy, House of Dior, Emporio Armani and Boss just to mention a few.

Gist Express: Can you provide us some skin care tips to getting a flawless beautiful skin?
Juliet: Achieving flawless skin requires having the knowledge of products to use and a few easy steps. Personally, a very good skincare regime is vital and necessary as there are so many pollutants in the air. I also recommend using a good concealer / color corrector, a foundation or powder that is perfect for your skin tone, Blush, lip-gloss or lipstick that is right for you.
Line your lips nicely and discreetly, smoothen your brows, apply the right eye shadow/ eyeliner, and lastly use mascara for the lashes.
